This advanced IT services organisation based in Northampton are looking to add several Senior Network Engineers to their operations team. Ideally you will have 3-5 years plus in-depth IT infrastructure & Support experience.
The Network Engineer will work in both a project delivery and third line support capacity for multiple clients. The role includes designing, configuring, deploying, monitoring, diagnosing and troubleshooting both on-premise and cloud-based cyber-security and infrastructure solutions. There will be a requirement to work as required from client sites to undertake activities that cannot be performed remotely.
 
Responsibilities
 

  • Leading complex, large scale projects, including pre-sales; engaging directly with customers to design solutions; define requirements, identify and develop solutions.
  • Mentor other engineers. – Essential.
  • Knowledge of designing comprehensive large-scale networks with automated failover and ability to create documentation.
  • Knowledge of routing and switching, with overlay SDN technology.
  • Experience with firewalls systems (Cisco, FortiGate, Palo Alto).
  • Experience with hands on knowledge of routing; BGP / OSPF / ISIS / RIP
  • Experience with hands on knowledge of VPN’s ; iPsec with VTI / GRE interfaces, OpenVPN
  • Knowledge of deploying Cisco Meraki networks.
  • Extensive understanding to program network devices in CLI’s
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux.
 
Core skills & experience
 
  • Proven experience in a similar Network; owning and managing the scoping and definition of conceptual designs by understanding and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Professional and dynamic approach, a passion for delivering IT/Networking security solutions, and proven ability to analyse customer requirements and select appropriate technologies to design innovative technical solutions.
  • Familiar with relevant Security principles/frameworks (e.g. ISO, ITIL, Cybersecurity etc.).
  • Superb English written and verbal communication skills, including very strong documentation skills and extensive experience delivering presentations to senior management level, both internally and with clients, including for support of presales and bid processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness, able to provide contributions to business cases, cost models etc.
  • Strong understanding of architectural principles, procedures and roadmap development.
  • Relevant Security industry or Vendor certification/accreditation desirable.
 
The IT Engineer will be able think on their feet, take responsibility and work under their own initiative. An excellent inter personnel manner is essential, always adopting a clear, positive, friendly but decisive approach. The Network Engineer will be a good IT, all-rounder who lives in the solution rather than the problem. They will be a self-starter and will have the ability to manage their workload whilst working to deadlines.
