IT Infrastructure & Security Engineer – Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham

This advanced software house based in Sutton Coldfield are looking to add an Infrastructure Engineer to their technical services team. The successful Infrastructure engineer will be joining an established infrastructure Support team to provide 2nd & 3rd line support. You will work closely with the team of Infrastructure Engineers and Information Security analysts ensuring the ongoing performance and availability of the company’s Internal IT and Telecoms Systems.   
 
Key Responsibilities for this Infrastructure & IT Security engineer role;

  • Managing the systems, servers and other network components together with telecoms used to deliver their internet-based 24 / 7 service
  • Resolve problems reported by end users for LAN & WAN networks, desktops, networking equipment (switches, routers, etc.)
  • Monitor and measure the performance of the network; reports problems to appropriate individuals/teams
  • Understand the need for good documentation, control and system procedures
  • Encourage an innovative culture that embraces change and experimentation while appreciating the need to provide a resilient service for their customers
  • Promote best practices and build security into the existing platforms
 
Essential skills for this Infrastructure & IT Security engineer role;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within industry in a similar role, including some exposure and/or knowledge of high-availability systems.
  • First class troubleshooting skills, with an ability to demonstrate this as part of the recruitment process.
  • Exposure to VMWare Virtualisation and Shared Storage Practices.
  • High level of attention to detail with a methodical, patient approach.
  • Network theory including management and performance analysis.
  • All basic administration aspects of Core Microsoft products on-premise (Windows Server, SQL Server, Exchange) and also their cloud based offerings (Office 365, Azure, and their Cloud based products).
  • Citrix Products and Technologies.
  • An exposure of Security measures and monitoring within the environment.
  • An exposure of network security and server hardening.

The successful Infrastructure & Security Engineer / Support Engineer will help to motivate the team working towards company objectives.  This is a superb opportunity to join an established player operating in a niche industry.
You will also be required to participate in an on-call rota, being on-call one day on, four days off.
